CCCP vs. K-Lite : Reference
I’m not here to start a codec war, I’m not here to end one. The codec pack you choose is your business. Anyways, I’ll shall discuss the two from my observations.
First, K-Lite.
K-Lite Codec Pack consits of the most commonly used codecs, and filters and come packaged with Media Player Classic. I used this since I found out about it, and active into anime. K-Lite has done the job for me, but started to mess up on me since the days of 3.9.5. However, I think that might be me trying to play a h.264 episode w/ MPC and on a res of 1024×768. (No high-def in the question) On top of that, playback began to slow down and then freeze up. However, in the past, K-Lite has proved faithful with updates every now and then. On top of that, it’s more known to more. Whether you use it is a matter of opinion.
On the flipside, there is CCCP or Combined Community Codec Pack. Not the former USSR. CCCP is recommended here by the writers of Animeted, and it is what fansubs use to view their vids. CCCP incorportates the most popular stuff that K-Lite does but it is not updated as much as K-Lite. In fact, the last update for CCCP came out in January that uses an outdated version of MPC. However, I noticed that CCCP inits. its codecs far more faster than what I had observed from K-Lite. In playback, I found that everything was out of sync, or eventually turned that way. (I don’t know but it might be me trying to do the h.264 thing again) When it comes down to everything, MPC can get that playback going faster than a cowboy on horseback. (bad reference =))
Now you have some base reference on everything. Go enjoy your anime.

huh…CCCP is clean and simple, but yeah its not regularly updated, whereas K-lite is good but its full of clutters and very confusing.
my verdict
use a combo of VLC, KM player, Real Player, FLV player, and off course Media player classic of CCCP.
MPC of CCCP will cover almost all your needs. but still the new flash, mp4 and mkv videos need flash player.
and for DvD VLC works fine, and KM player offers very high pitched sound quality as compared to other players.
and you may need real player some times…~*
